Abstract -- This study links the Islamic Nusantara concept with the bureaucracy in Indonesia, especially from the emphasis on defense aspects. To analyze this, this study uses the concept of Indonesian national defense system, non-military threats, the concept of bureaucratic management, and globalization.
Islam Nusantara here is a peculiarity of Indonesia which has a history of the entry of Islam which is different from the experience of other countries. In Indonesia the concept of Islamic Nusantara is not a new concept in dealing with radicalism, but a natural manifestation of the historical process itself.
Therefore this study aims to analyze how the management of bureaucracy in the Indonesian government is able to respond to intellectual needs, both in the form of academic and non-academic activities that related to studies of Islam Nusantara. If the activities of the Islam Nusantara are only supported by NU activists, then the context of universal defense will not occur, because the universal defense actually involves all parties.
Keywords: Islamic Nusantara, universal defense, NU, Radicalism, non-military threats
