Global Maritime Fulcrum concept was first conveyed by Joko Widodo during his campaign for the presidential election contest in 2014. Since then, it has become his development vision for 10 years until 2024 and become an estuary for ASEAN’s collective commitment as ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Even though AOIP does not state the defense field as one of the areas of cooperation, pursuing security in the region will have impacts on each national security. Constructing a national defense strategy will be influenced by the security in the Indo-Pacific region. Hence, empowerment of maritime defense along with its potential shall also address Indonesia's real effort and direct contribution in the Indo-Pacific region.References
